Metallic Burst Ushi-Oni from Guumon x Cereal Box Toys

A few days ago while I was at work I was sitting across the desk from a customer when I just so happen to notice something dangling above her head.  This little furry spider had descended on a thread like an art thief breaking into a museum.  He hung there momentarily before dropping into her hair and nearly disappearing from sight. I had two options here:  I could say nothing and let the spider could go about his business, possibly unknown to the woman (she had a lot of curly hair) or I could remove the little guy myself, ensuring he would live on without fear of being mangled by a hairbrush.  I chose option number two.  I told her to hold still for a second, reached in and plucked the curious arachnid out.  She looked at me like I was completely crazy until I opened my hand to show her what it was, at which time I was pretty sure she was going to pay off the balance of my car loan as thanks.  I let the spider go and and everyone lived happily ever after.

Had my spider friend been the size or had the looks of Ushi-Oni from Cereal Box Toys he would have been free to do with her what he wished.  I don't mess with supernatural arachnids as a general rule and being that I'm still alive I'd say I've prove its merit.  World famous vinyl artist Guumon has added his signature metallic/oil slick paint job to a limited run of five of these and the only way to own one is via lottery system.  Starting tomorrow (Thursday June 11) until Sunday June 14 you can enter by sliding into Guumon's DMs on Instagram here.  They will be $250 in the US, $275 everywhere else, which includes shipping.

One-Off Pumpkin Rage Daigomi Lottery from Guumon

As toy collectors we all want that rare figure to make everyone else jealous that we alone have it.  To have in our possession the one thing that will make people bombard you with emails of cash and trade offers that you just brush away like the pathetic beggars they are, because you are the king, you hold the power to decide their happiness or misery and you will wield it like the sicko you are!!!  Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!

Maybe you're a little more mature about it, I dunno, but I'm not here to judge.  All I know is that you need this amazing Pumpkin Rage Daigomi from Guumon in your life.  There's only one of them in the entire world, which makes it as rare as anything can be unless somehow we figure out how to own things that haven't even been thought of yet.  Which if you've got some cash laying around I've got some killer ideas I'd be happy to sell you and in turn I would promise to never make them so you have the exclusive ownership of that thought.  Let the bidding wars begin!!!

All you need to enter this lottery is stated at the bottom of the picture and you only have until the 20th to get your name in.  Do it and let it set the tone for the rest of your day.

"Titanium Edition" Iron Monster from Guumon x Miscreation Toys

How on earth do you make a freaky looking toy that was born in a burning oil drum filled with nightmares look so dang...pretty?  Guumon applied some serious paint wizardry to these Iron Monsters from Miscreation Toys that almost makes you forget that they look like they want to choke you out.  Instead you are mesmerized by the metallic colors as they dance before you; hiding the great evil underneath.  Or something, I've been dramatic since they upped my meds.

These dudes are being released this Friday, February 12th at 7pm pst only at http://autopsybabies.bigcartel.com.

Seen at NYCC: KaijuMonster

One of the things I enjoy most about New York Comic Con is seeing things in person that I normally only see pictures of online.  Certain toys can't be done justice unless your eye balls can gaze upon them in real life, and every year  KaijuMonster melts my retinas with some of the most killer toys from around the world.

It was great catching up with Guumon, who has made the jump into full-time toy making and is working on tons of stuff that sounded very exciting.  Dude is living his dream and you can't help but be inspired by that.

The resin work of DT Custom and Flawtoys were some of the best figures I saw all weekend.  Each toy looked like glass rather than any type of plastic, and I am truly a sucker for the double casting technique when it's pulled off so flawlessly.  Really impressive stuff.  If you want to see more pictures from the convention you can check out www.facebook.com/TheToyViking.

Seen at New York Comic Con: Kaiju Monster

One of my first stops at every New York Comic Con is the Kaiju Monster booth.  The inspiration for a thousand movie about giant creatures destroying coastal cities could be found right here.  I could easily have gone into serious debt just within their three walls, as there was nothing I didn't want to take home.  Even my wife, who tends to prefer the cuter side of toys, was falling in love with the technicolor beasts.  Evidently there are some leftovers from the show, so check out www.kaijumonster.com to get a hold of anything you may have missed.

Tenacious Toys Exclusive "Purple Haze" Daigomi from Guumon

Driving into Atlantic City you will pass by a giant landfill that has a distinct smell of monster farts.  You will then smell it again after you've lost all of your money, signed over the title of your car to a loan shark, and are forced to walk back up the expressway in an attempt to hitch hike home.  It tried to warn you, that your get rich quick scheme involving your retirement fun and a blackjack table was a stinker.  Afterwards it's just rubbing it in, a noxious "I told you so" from old baby diapers and rotting Chinese food.  Luckily I am smart enough to live far enough away from it that I have not become used to the smell, but anytime I drive by it I'm expecting the odor is actually coming from the formation of a gigantic monster beneath the surface, coming to wreak havoc on us for our wasteful ways.  Daigomi is our reckoning, and you're gonna wish you recycled your cans now, punk!

I can't say enough nice things about this figure.  Each time I see one I notice some new little detail worked into the design, with different paint schemes revealing new secrets.  Guumon has painted up a grand total of 6 of these figures in the "Purple Haze" color way, and they are exclusives to the good folks of Tenacious Toys.  There's even a chase version that involves a bit more gold near the head.  These will be available via a lottery system that will begin today.  Here is what you have to do for a chance to own one of these beauties:

To enter the Lottery, email us at tenacioustoys at gmail and include this information: Title the email with "Purple Haze Daigomi" and in the body of the email please include this info: Full name and address, plus paypal account username. Lottery closes on Friday. Winners will be chosen at random, only the winners will be contacted....one piece per household. Each of the 6 pieces will be $150+shipping. We will give you ship options & prices.

May the toy gods be forever in your favor, or something.

Limited edition Bangagon from Guumon x Miles High

The wife and I went to Wildwood yesterday and the best way I can think to describe it for people that have never been is imagine going to a seaside carnival owned by Wal-Mart.  Not only are there rides and games but you will leave with the most self esteem you've ever had in your life.  Seriously, the people that you will see do not exist anywhere else in real life and look like they could have been extras in the Mos Eisley Cantina scene.  Jerry Springer could set up a casting booth and never worry about running out of guests.

Guumon's Bangagon figure could walk around the boardwalk virtually undetected amid the other critters I saw yesterday.  He just made an exclusive version of this dude for Miles High and they are available right this minute at http://shop.miles-high.com/.

Seen at NYCC 2013: Kaiju Monster

The Kaiju Monster booth at New York Comic Con could supply enough ideas to make Japanese monster movies for the next 100 years.  I'm in no way an expert on this stuff, but it is some of my favorite to look at.  From the sculpting to the paint jobs, every inch of every figure is interesting and the more you stare, the more stuff you'll notice about each one.

It was good seeing my buddy Brian from Guumon again.  Super nice dude who loves making monsters.  This is one of those figures that I can't pinpoint any one particular reason that I love it, but it just strikes me.   I have a short list of figures that I don't own yet but that I really want and this guy is definitely on there.

Check out some more pics here and over on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TheToyViking.

I love this dude.  I have no idea who made him, but I might have to hunt one of these down.

KaijuMonster at NYCC

Obviously, KaijuMonster wants all of my money.  If anyone is a fan of crazy monster toys be prepared to file for bankruptcy protection after New York Comic Con.  Just look at this lineup.  You have everyone from Max Toy Co., to Unbox Industries, to Guumon.  These are some heavy hitters and I can't wait to see the actual toys they'll have available.
