Seen at NYCC: Lego

I love Lego.  I love sitting on the floor and building things out of them for hours and not giving a crap about anything else.  They are the perfect toy and you don't even feel that weird playing with them  when you're a grown man.  Well, sometimes, but not always.  Needless to say, I've never built anything quite like this, but I'd give it a go if someone wanted to buy me a ton of the bricks.  Could you imagine how pissed I would be if built one of these only to find out mid way that I screwed up?  They must have some serious anger management techniques at ye olde Lego factory, cause I would be ready to snap.

"Hey guys, I finally finished building that giant Gandalf statue."

"You left out a piece in his chest bro."

-cue the mass murder-

That's a lot of pressure right?  Getting one of these guys done without messing up.

Oh, and they're doing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Legos.  There's your bit of news.

Who's that strapping young lad with the man purse standing next to the Incredible Hulk?

Seen at NYCC: Erick Scarecrow

It must take a small army to move the amount of toys Erick Scarecrow brings with him to Comic Con.  I mean seriously, just look at all the pictures I took.  He must use some sort of wizardry to fit everything into his booth because nobody maximizes square footage like this guy.  He had a bunch of cool exclusive figures for the show and a bunch of familiar characters from his popular lineup.  The one that stood out the most to me though is pictured just below and to the right.  Pretty weird huh?  It's a huge departure from his typical style of bright colors and cartoonish features.  I really like it and in talking with him you could tell how excited he was to try something completely unexpected.  Hopefully we'll get more info about a release date soon.  In the meantime, enjoy the pictures and check out http://www.esctoy.com/ to get your hands on any leftovers from the show.

Seen at NYCC: Monster Worship

Monster Worship brought a plethora of glow in the dark stuff to New York Comic Con.  Is 3 considered a "plethora"?  I dunno, I just like using that word as it makes me feel like I'm getting something out of the "plethora" of student loans I'm paying back.  Sallie Mae is the real terrorist in this country!

Anyway, it was the first time I've been able to see these figures in person and I was diggin em.  They're definitely creating toys that stand out from what everyone else is doing, which is not a bad thing at all.

What Did Your Favorite Artists Get at NYCC?

Usually, we are used to spending a ton of money to buy stuff from our favorite toy artists so I thought it would be interesting to see what THEY purchased during New York Comic Con.  Here are a few that I found:

I'm sure I could make some interesting psychological observations about their choices, but since I got my medical license from a guy in Chinatown (it came free with a "legit" pair of Nikes) I should probably refrain.  Call me though if you need a transplant, I watched a video once.

Jon-Paul Kaiser Star Wars Custom Show Pieces For Sale Now!

I had every intention of checking out Jon-Paul Kaiser's show an Yoyamart last week during New York Comic Con, but the fates were against me.  To make a long story very very short, we weren't able to go and I felt like an idiot for missing it.  But as luck would have it, many pieces from the show are still available for purchase at very reasonable prices.  Like that Stormtrooper you see there.  Imagine the amount of work that went into transforming that 5 inch Qee figure into something of otherworldly awesomeness, and then realise that it can be yours for only $200!!!  You can go right now to www.yoyamart.com and choose from a bunch of figures looking for good homes.

Seen at NYCC: Rsin and Matt Anderson

Rsin and Matt Anderson had a huge showing at New York Comic Con this year. They shared a booth with Tenacious Toys and brought a ton of custom figures with them for sale. Rsin also had his 3 inch production Dunny release with Kidrobot that was an exclusive to the show and caused quite the traffic jam as people lined up to score one. Matt Anderson debuted his artist series of Night Terror Dunnys and sold every one of them to a single person! Seriously, I stopped by the table to say hi, then came back about an hour later and there was a huge "sold" sign in his case. The buyer also bought a few of his other customs, nearly clearing out his inventory for the show in one transaction. And this was on the first day of the convention. It was definitely one of the best stories of the weekend and both he and Rsin deserved every bit of success. Check out some pictures from their setup:
