Mike Egan SDCC Exclusives Available Now at Lulubell Toy Bodega

Mike Egan is my favorite artist who used to be an embalmer.  Come to think of it, I don't know anyone who used to prepare corpses and make neo-folk art.  But that still makes him my favorite.  The man has experienced death in ways most of us never will and I think that gives his paintings a unique truth to them, as they were crafted by hands that have transformed people's loved ones into the last physical image they will ever see of them.  It's eerie and it's poetic in the same breath.

Another one of his characters entered the 3D realm this past San Diego Comic Con and now Lulubell Toy Bodega has the few remaining pieces for those of us that were unable to be there in person.  Lucky is available in both black and orange and makes a nice companion piece to his previously released Bones figure.  They also have a few copies of his Death Goes Pop book in which he painted portraits of some of pop cultures most recognizable characters.  Each on also come with a hand embellished and signed print.

Check out more of his work at http://www.eganpaintings.com/.

Bad Apple Liquid Erosion from Mighty Jaxx

Snow White is evidently not a fan of the heat either, though thankfully I've never been hot enough to actually melt.  Instinctoy have added this subtle touch to the ridiculously popular Bad Apple figure from Goin x Mighty Jaxx.  Only 150 of each color grenade were made and they will retail for $150 each.  Now onto the confusing part.  There are different windows of preorder time available depending on where you live in the world.  I am going to present this info to you directly as it was stated on Mighty Jaxx's Instagram account:

4th August 2013 Los Angeles 8pm New York 11pm 5th August 2013 London 4am Singapore 10am Japan 11pm

So if you live in the United States, your window of opportunity is tomorrow.  If you live elsewhere, it's gonna be on Monday.

Hug The Killer Army Green Edition from Mighty Jaxx

I've made it a rule to never hug anything with razor sharp teeth.  Thus far, that rule has kept me alive and in good health.  Sorry Aunt Claire, it's not that I don't love you, it's that you filed your dentures down in some weird DIY dementia moment.  It's creepy.

Hug The Killer looks like he is filled with bad ideas.  Most of them involve your flesh and how good it would feel digesting in his belly.  Mighty Jaxx are offering up this critter in a new army green color way in an edition of 50 right now at http://mightyjaxx.com/.

Paul Frank's Julius Custom Show at Toy Art Gallery

Monkeys make everything better.  Who wouldn't be far more fascinated by NASCAR if all of the drivers were monkeys?  What about a monkey dentist?   While it may not cut down on the pain factor it would still be more entertaining.  Paul Frank's been putting monkeys on things for years and making them better, and now other artists are putting their artistic talents on his monkey Julius (wait, that sounds kind of scandalous).

Tomorrow night is the opening reception for the Julius Toy Art Show at Toy Art Gallery.  And if you don't live close it's no big deal, because you will be able to see them all and even buy them at www.toyartgallery.com

Lost Worlds: Creatures from Beyond at Stranger Factory

Oooooooooh this is gonna be so good.  Stranger Factory is Albuquerque (do you know how freakin hard that is to spell) New Mexico is having a new show that starts tomorrow featuring some of my favorite toy people.  Lost Worlds: Creatures from Beyond will feature new work from Paul Kaiju, Splurrt, and Mutant Vinyl Hardcore, and more.  Check out some of the stuff that Splurrt is sending for the show right here:

The opening reception is tomorrow night from 6-9pm and hopefully some of this stuff will make its way online in the near future.

Paul Kaiju will also be teaching a class in mini figure sculpting this Sunday.  For $85 you get a 3 hour class with the man himself with an additional hour long q&a afterwards.  Learn all of his secrets and then become a toy making phenomenon yourself.  Then have your own show, become rich and famous, and date a Kardashian sister.

Art Giants from Kidrobot

If I had stupid money, like the kind of money that would make me buy an alpaca farm, I would buy one of these.  We've all seen the giant fiberglass Labbit stools and of course I want those, but I'm really gonna need one of these 4 foot tall Dunnys.  Kidrobot has decided to offer up these guys that were previously only used as store displays.  Each one is hand made to order and takes about 3 months to produce.  And if you live in the United States they'll ship this or the stools to you for free.  The Dunnys come in a few different colors, but that may be too boring for you, so they will even help you get your favorite artist to customize it.  That won't be cheap, but if you have $4,999.99 to plunk down on a giant toy I doubt that you'll blink at paying a hefty price to get it painted up.  The stools are a little cheaper at $999 for you ballers with a budget.  I wonder why they made them stools and not just regular Labbit figures?  Not that I can afford to buy one anyway, but I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't ask the hard questions.

Monster Worship to Release Remaining SDCC Exclusives Online Today

No, this isn't a picture of all of your mom's old boyfriends.  This is a picture of Monster Worship's exclusives they had available at San Diego Comic Con.  What, you didn't go to comic con?  Yeah, me neither, but we're all in luck because they have some remaining stock and they will be for sale tonight at 7pm Eastern time at http://www.monsterworship.com/.  Studies have proven that buying cool toys makes you live longer and makes you more attractive to women.  I offer up proof in the form of me not being dead and my wife being a stone cold fox!  Behold the wonders of science!
